Portion sizes and pricing swing widely across this group, from a $10 lunch bowl to a multi-course tasting menu at an upscale sushi counter, so checking recent reviews and photos is more useful than the price range alone. In Lake Forest, dinner reservations for popular izakaya, hot pot and Korean BBQ spots fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, so booking ahead or arriving at opening is worth it. Many restaurants across California run daily lunch specials on weekdays that are not listed on the dinner menu, so it is worth asking. Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free options vary a lot by kitchen; call ahead if you have a dietary restriction rather than assuming the menu will note it.

Lake Forest is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Lake Forest follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

I've been going to this place for years and don't think I've written a review yet. The food here is always excellent! They also updated their interior and menus a couple years ago and the changes have been positive. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for THE place for Thai food in this area.

Hidden gem for Thai food. The quiet and nondescript building doesn't bear witness to the quality of food served. Very genuine food and polite servers who aim to please. We shared the Pad See-Ew with Pork and Yellow Curry with Chicken and rice. We also ordered the rare Mango Sticky Rice. This is highly recommended but save room for dessert. The meals are hearty and the mango and sticky rice are plentious. Service is excellent and helpful. The atmosphere is very authentic with the ongoing elephant theme throughout.

Elephant Cafe checked all the boxes for me. The food is delicious and the service is impressively fast without feeling rushed. I particularly loved the cream cheese wontons (perfectly crispy!) and the sticky rice with coconut sauce. The atmosphere is very inviting and the staff makes you feel right at home. Plus, plenty of free parking in the lot!

The spicy eggplant and tofu was so perfect that for the first time in the 20 years that I’ve been eating Thai food I didn’t add any condiments at the table. Boom. And something as simple as the mixed vegetables tom yum could be such a write off other places - but here it’s craveable. Chock full of vegetables, spicy, sour, perfect. The one less than bright spot was the Pad Thai which was mostly noodles and had very little egg or scallions and very little tamarind or dried shrimp flavor. That being said, the tofu was cooked beautifully and was served in a massive portion. Service is wonderful. Prices are great. Would return to keep trying more of the menu.

The lunch specials are pretty good. It comes with soup and a salad. The soup is interesting it was very sour. I got the Thai red curry and it was a little too sweet for my liking. The place has a fishy smell and the air conditioner wasn't off. The service was pretty good.
